Remediation in Constructed Wetlands

چکیده
Constructed wetlands are in use to improve the quality of contaminated groundwaters at many sites in the USA. Target contaminants include both organic and inorganic constituents. Volatile and nonvolatile hydrocarbons are found in ground water at closed petroleum refinery sites, and in leachates from landfills. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are pollutants at many sites. Chlorinated organics occur in waters as the result of the disposal of solvents. Inorganics, such as cyanide, ammonia and a number of metals are also of concern at many sites.

Constructed Wetland Systems as a Methodology for the Treatment of Wastewater in Bucaramanga Industrial Park
Effluent discharges from municipal, industrial, and agricultural activities constitute major sources of pollution on land and water bodies. During the 1990s, large-scale application of Constructed Wetlands (CWs) as a remediation option drew much attention globally from the public and green groups alike. The most common application of CWs is for flow management in river system and little is docu...

Constructed wetlands have not been commonly used in Vietnam due to the lack of information in the selection of proper types of constructed wetlands, type of reeds, design parameters and performance efficiency, in tropical climates. This paper focuses on Canna generalis, which is a common reed and easy to grow both in water and wet land conditions. Two kinds of hybrid constructed wetlan...
متن کاملElemental composition of native wetland plants in constructed mesocosm treatment wetlands.
Plants that accumulate a small percentage of metals in constructed treatment wetlands can contribute to remediation of acidic, metal contaminated runoff waters from coal mines or processing areas. We examined root and shoot concentrations of elements in four perennial wetland species over two seasons in mesocosm wetland systems designed to remediate water from a coal pile runoff basin. Deep wet...
متن کاملAnammox enrichment and constructed wetland inoculation for improvement of wastewater treatment performance
This study contributes to the improvement of low-cost biotechnology for wastewater treatment in constructed wetlands (CWs). Constructed wetlands are energy efficient engineered systems that mimic the treatment processes of natural wetlands, removing polluting organic matter, nutrients, and pathogens from water. The aim of this study was to investigate the advisability of the inoculation of hori...
متن کاملThe use of sulfur isotopes to monitor the effectiveness of constructed wetlands in controlling acid mine drainage
Present address: S.C. Hsu, IT Corporation, 111 N. Canal St, Suite 941, Chicago IL 60606, USA Abstract Acid drainage containing high levels of iron, manganese, and sulfate is a pollution problem widely associated with abandoned coal mines. The remediation of these sites commonly falls to public agencies, so policy-makers need to allocate scarce resources over many sites and to find cost-effectiv...
